Abstract
The high grade astrocytoma has shown lower survival ratio inspite of the various thera¡þpeutic trials and the combined therapy in the literatures. The factors of therapeutic failure were the limitation of complete extirpation of astrocytoma and its high regrowing tendency from post-operative remnants.
Recently, we experienced two cases of astrocytomas grade II to I which were managed as total extirpation in the surgical field and post-operative radiation therapy with the dosage of 5500 Rads over six weeks. The result of these combined therapy was excellent clinically. The follow up brain CT scan over one year later the combined therapy showed clearly healed up of the mass lesion without evidence of remnants and also regrowing.
These experience and reviewing of literatures was yielded a suggestion that total extirpation of tumor in the surgical field plus postoperative radiation therapy was a possible choice of treatment of high grade astrocytomas.
